Promotion and enhancement of Cultural Heritage

The sustainability of the UCH II project’s activities has been ensured through the creation of HERIMED association. The main target groups the UCH II project is addressed to are constituted by all actors needing need information, support and training on enhancement of Cultural Heritage, including Private and Public Institutions, people involved in the preservation, restoration and enhancement of architectural and archaeological items, art scholars and so on.
The main long-term effect of the project is the improvement of awareness and knowledge within the eleven participating countries on advanced methodologies and techniques for the preservation of Cultural Heritage. In particular, a greater awareness has been spread towards the necessity to plan some technical interventions on the Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage, according to the methods enabling maintenance programs.
The project has improved the dialogue between the scientific and the institutional world pushing both to a greater use of the new technologies aimed at the acquaintance of the Cultural Heritage and the management of the conservation processes. The creation of the HERIMED association constitutes a result of long term effect regarding the possibility to work exploiting the above philosophy.

Within the UCH II project two training courses were realised:

  • The first one was held in Rome on March 8th-12th, 2004. The training focused on the applications of New Technologies aiming at the preservation and Cultural Heritage management.
  • The other one was held in Algiers from June 3rd to June 23rd, 2005. Restoration techniques and practical hands-on stages are the main focus of this training course.
  • The two training courses aforementioned will constitute a starting point to apply the methodologies and the techniques developed in this project in the future. HERIMED members will be encouraged to pursue the UCH II project’s objectives through specific projects and other initiatives.
